HEAT BATTERY ROUND TABLE WESTMINSTER
What a week it has been for the Leaping Hare team!
On Wednesday I made my way down to London on the 5:14am train to be part of a breakfast round table at Portcullis House, West Minster. The topic on the table was support for new technologies to support decarbonisation of home heating, specifically heat batteries such as the tepeo ZEB and the Sunamp heat battery, which we regularly install I also met Phil Ward from Eskimo who is developing a modular heat battery – so much great innovation going on!
We have been installing heat batteries for a few years now at Leaping Hare, along with infrared and for central heating systems, to provide all-electric home heating. They offer no-nonsense solutions that really work, are quick to install and customers are delighted with the result. One of the great benefits is the ease of installation – whole house heating installed within two days and hot water systems replaced in just one day.
There are a few issues to address however, hence the representation to MPs and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Heat Batteries (to be known as Thermal Energy Storage Systems) are in the process of having MCS support and the standards are soon to be published for heat batteries that support central heating systems. The beauty of TESS is that they make the most of off-peak energy and so are economical to run. Currently there is no government incentive for TESS and there is VAT added too. Products like the tepeo ZEB provide an important option for home owners where an ASHP is not currently suitable.
It was a well attended meeting and we were there to represent installers and customers, having gone on our own journey with electric heating. Most importantly we feel that customers deserve choice.
Thank you Tome Lowe from Thermal Storage UK for the invite!
